A very scientifically reasoned approach. Presents the recent Creation view of mankind [not the 7 days literal, or 6,000 year old earth]. This view is God could take the billions of years to accurately make all the universal bodies and Laws to fall into place, but that to create man was a progressive approach since there is evidence of some kind of ancient bipedal mammals similar to man and ape, but since no intermediates exist in the fossil record, God created them to serve a planned purpose, until the final Creation of Adam and Eve [literally, not from an evolutionary construct]. Adam and Eve were hand Created by God Himself literally but anywhere from 10,000 - 100,000 years ago. Great informational armor for you to paraphrase to your high schoolers.

The case for simple faith is made stronger

This is a fine book written by a serious author. The approach is somewhat in the middle of the alternatives to naturalistic evolution, much more faith confessing than ID, but very much accepting of the soundness of scientific data and dating, which is troubling for those who wish to begin with the Scriptures. Still I found the author to be consistent and remarkably humble in his willingness to follow the facts as science has uncovered them. Unfortunately, much of what science has discovered ended up weakening his original conclusions substantially, which is dutifully recorded in the 10 year update to the book. It is hard to conceive of fundamental evangelical faith in the Bible surviving the stretching of time that must happen to the genealogical record when you accept as fact new data showing humans arising some 175,000 years ago. So as seems to be happening throughout our culture today, the middle course is weakened, and the rationale for the more extreme views becomes stronger.
It appears that many of faith will rather continue to trust the Bible and 6 days of creation, since the data of science appear to shift with every new discovery. Better to trust God whose Word never changes than in compromises that must be adjusted to account for limited observations of times and places that no man has seen, that could very likely be shown some day soon once again to be in error.

Heady but helpful

Though at times this work leads readers through the deeps weeds of biology, microbiology, genetics and the uncomfortable topic of non-human hominids, the work is a helpful source on being able to speak to the origins of humanity with more than, "the Bible says . . ." Which is a statement many non-believers will not listen to to its conclusion.
