The molecule on the cover is called dopamine. Although this is a relatively simple organic molecule, it is a major neurotransmitter in the brain. Dopamine plays a pivotal role in the regulation and control of movement, motivation and cognition. It also is closely linked to reward, reinforcement and addiction. Abnormalities in brain dopamine are associated with many neurological and psychiatric disorders including Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia and substance abuse. This close association between dopamine and neurological and psychiatric diseases and with substance abuse make the dopimine system an important topic in neurosciences research and an important molecular target for drug development.

The book arrived in very good condition, it has met all standards required for college level course at my institution. Price was extremely fair compared to what the campus bookstore was asking for. Would recommend purchasing this book here to others who need this particular textbook.

an organic chemistry introduction through mechanisms

A very good aspect of this book is to present the basics of organic chemistry through mechanisms. It is much easier to memorize a reaction if you can explain it by a mechanism. If you read this book and beside work with the outstanding "Writing Reaction Mechanisms" by Miller et al. you are ready to start with more advanced concepts

Solomons' Organic Chemistry is the "feel good," hit of the year. A must own for anyone who's anybody!! Scintillating portrayal of pi and sigma bonding orbitals. But of course, the functional groups take the cake...as always
