I loved the hypnotized complete series. Ari and Cody make the perfect couple there a team working as a team is what save the ranch. I was glad to see Terence got what he deserved too bad Linda was not charged right along with him. but leave it to Ari and she put Linda in her place.

The unprecedented complexity of the financial, sovereign debt, economic, and social crises in Europe has led to a political crisis that reflects the struggle to effectively address its various causes and effects.

The second objective is to present a theoretically informed assessment of the consequences of the European crises for state-society relations and democratic legitimacy. Our analysis of the crisis in a variety of national contexts and European governance highlights the difficulties faced by political decision-makers. We find that the domestic policy process is selectively affected or disconnected from the process of rule-making at the EU level, that public opinion still matters in the process of policy formation and EU crisis response, and that the salience of the EU agenda in the domestic public sphere increasingly depends on the preferences of political actors. Public response to the crisis has become increasingly complex as well, ranging from declining trust in the political institutions, emerging national stereotypes, changing expectations of the EU level of crisis response, growing disconnect between political parties and voters, and evolving intra-regional distinctions across the EU’s east-west divide.

Vulliamy, a British journalist with keen powers of observation and nerves of steel, describes what he saw during his 1992-1993 coverage of the war in Bosnia. Much of his compelling narrative consists of scenes in which drunken thugs and uniformed lynch mobs perpetrate outrages and atrocities against civilians, including the systematic rape of women. The testimony he collected for his chapter on rape in the war zone encompasses, as he puts it, "every conceivable dark cranny of sexual sadism and male violence." Vulliamy denounces the UN and the European Community for failing to come to the aid of Bosnia's stillborn democracy, especially its Muslim population, and for denying them the means to defend themselves. As this review is being written, the morning Internet brings news of fresh Serbian "ethnic cleansing." The shock is not diminished, and Vulliamy's excellent work of firsthand reportage of the Serb and Croat war against the Muslims provides both context and understanding of the carnage, not least in the words of victims and participants. Most chilling are the words of a Serbian "intellectual" that Sarajevo was theater to divert world attention from what was happening elsewhere. More complete than Roy Gutman's excellent A Witness to Genocide (LJ 10/1/93), Vulliamy's account of the Bosnian war and the betrayal by the diplomats of "Western civilization" is so vivid that reading it produces moral and physical pain. This account of human and cultural genocide is essential reading for all but the morally indifferent.

Anyone who has followed the outrages perpetrated by Bosnian Serbs and Croats upon their Muslim neighbors must find it hard to be objective; perhaps to his credit, Vulliamy makes it clear that objectivity is not his goal here. Rather, he attempts to show the horrors inflicted on a people whose only crime is to be caught between the virulent revanchist nationalisms of Serb and Croat. While Vulliamy avoids the trap of equating the Serbs with Nazis and the Muslims with Jews, the parallels are certainly there. Vulliamy's rage is directed primarily against Serbian nationalists, but he also displays contempt for the inactivity of the Western powers. This is a work that tears at the emotions and shocks the sensibilities of decent people. Nevertheless, it is essentially a one-sided scream; while it eloquently serves to highlight the ongoing horror of Bosnia, it does not point the way to an ultimate, lasting solution that can send the demons of ethnic hatred back to the hell whence they came. This is a reporter's personal account of what he experienced, "a first draft of history" as the expression goes. I give it five stars, not for its scholarship or its comprehensiveness--it is neither scholarly nor complete--but for its captivating sheer vividness and passion.

Vulliamy was one of a small cadre of Western jounalists who tried to make sense of the Bosnian catastrophe for the outside world. Others also went on to write fine books: Chuck Sudetic, Misha Glenny, and Tim Judah among them. While Vietnam evoked a kind of bored cynicism in the press, Bosnia seems to have evoked deep and passionate engagement.

Vulliamy first became renowned when he exposed the Serbs' infamous Omarska concentration camp near Banja Luka, and promulgated the memorable photo of the frail Muslim prisoner with the bony arms and protruding ribs that was one of the first incitements of western interest in the war. Although the narrative is mostly limited to Vulliamy's own experience, that experience was broad, taking him to many of the key sites at key times--Vinkovci in Eastern Croatia, where the Serb-Croation war began; Bijelijna in Northeastern Bosnia, where the Serb-Bosnian war began; Prozor in Herzegovinia, where the Croat--Muslim war began; Sarajevo trying to hang on during the seige; Tuzla in East-Central Bosnia, which remained in Bosnian Army control throughout, and where waves of refugees from the ethnic cleansing in the East retreated; and Travnik in Central Bosnia, "the crossroads of the war". Metaphors from prior wars pervade the depictions of refugees and destruction: "Beirut" and "the Ho Chi Minh Trail."

Like others steeped in the place, Vulliamy notes that Bosnia before the war was ethnically mixed ("ethnically" is a misnomer; in Bosnia it means "religiously"). Today, each region is largely "cleansed". Banja Luka was always mainly Orthodox and Sarajevo mainly Muslim, but only by slim majorities. Today, each is more "pure", if that is an acceptable word for it (statistically, Sarajevo is "mixed" only because the Srpska Republic touches the city limits). The terror and forced-resettlement that occasioned this are the central themes of the book. Vulliamy recounts with stop-frame drama the sudden turnound of the Croats from allies of the Bosnians to enemies, overnight in the town of Prozor.

The book was published in 1994, before the Srebrenica massacre, before the NATO bombing, and before the Dayton Accords. Little is lost by that timing. There are lots of appraisals of that miserable war. This book puts you there.

Not the first book to read on Balkans but a MUST still.

I am surprised no one else has written on this book. I only say "don't let this be the first book you read on the Balkans" because it really seems to scare you, especially what the Serbians did. Thus, I wonder is it "anti-Serb?" I don't think so, I think it reflects the truth. Although, there are many passages I remember, that of the migration out of Bosnia and seeing body parts such as a hand sticks out in my mind, so does forcing innocent parties to walk through minefields. If this is all true, this book seems to be the most damning in support of Nato involvement. I have read now, many books on the Balkans, this is a must read. I am sorry I have not seen others comment on this.

Great for Self Study

I used this book to study for my boards exam for CT certification. Doing everything self-guided (as opposed to going to school) was very stressful, but this book is simply written yet very thorough. When it came time for the boards exam I was super stressed; as the test date approached I was using this text to really cram. I did have a little help from a sample bottle of NueroNRG – Mental Focus and Energy Supplement - I included the link for anyone who might need a little help staying focused and clear-headed. I was cool as a cucumber when I sat for my exam, and passed by a very comfortable margin. This text was a great resource and I highly recommend it to anyone working towards a CT certification.

study guide for CT registry

I began cross training to CT just over a year ago....I took my test on July 30th and passed with a higher score than I thought I would. I utilized this book, the DeMaio book and the pocket atlas books for cross sectional anatomy. I highly recommend these books to prepare for the exam, it's all you need.

decent ct book with small flaws

This is a good solid text for new CT techs and veteran techs to use as a quick review. Plenty of pictures that help with understanding the text although they're all in black and white which is a negative thing to me. The chapters are well organized and informative. The biggest negative aspect of this book is that there is no chapter that reviews artifacts and their methods of correction which is a big part of the CT registry. Still a solid text that could use improvement but definitely not a waste of money.

Read this early in your academic career to be miles ahead of your peers after graduation.

I wish I had read this book as an undergraduate. After making numerous mistakes and finally stumbling into a great career, I mentor students at my alma mater using many of the themes mentioned in this book.

There is a massive amount of literature written on getting into a good school available for high school students. There is also a considerable amount of literature and self-help books for mid-career professionals. Very little is written on the process between leaving university and finding a career-path employment opportunity. GET TO WORK helps fill that gap.

Students should read this in their freshman year, begin following the processes mentioned in the book during their sophomore year, land and grow from a stellar internship in their junior year, and then coast into full-time employment during their senior year.

Incredible resource for college students of any age or year

This book is miles ahead of other guidebooks for college students. It contains mountains of incredible advice for college students of every age or year: the freshman who is looking for his first internship, the sophomore or junior looking to get an even better internship than their first one, and the senior looking to nail down their dream job.

If you've read other guidebooks on getting jobs or internships - and you don't think you need any more advice - think again. This one has something for you (or someone you know). Buy it, read it, learn from it, and live it.

Recommendation when reading: Pay VERY close attention to the Insider Tips. They are usually a couple paragraphs of information, but pack a TON of very, very useful information into those paragraphs.
